Bellaire Blooms
In my senior year of college, I had to volunteer some number of hours on a farm. After awkwardly fangirling over them (honestly, they’re #couplesgoals) and their diverse inventory of flowers at the farmers’ market, I called up Aaron and asked if he’d let me come to the farm for some free labor. He of course said yes! My first time at the farm, we harvested gomphrena. Anna let me do flower crafts with her (my second favorite thing after flowers is hot glue). Anna is the funniest person I’ve ever met and I knew immediately these two were the best kind of company. They’re always striving to be good people and responsible farmers that are doing right by their environment. They love unique and old-school flowers and have introduced me to so many flowers that I’ve fallen in love with. I never quite appreciated a zinnia until Anna introduced me to the queen lime series or zinerella peach (this will be the name of my firstborn child).
I’ve worked with them all over the farm. Mixing soil, sowing seeds, propagating, transplanting 300 ft rows, running drip tape, stretching plastic, snuggling farm pups. Going out to BB farm is the absolute best. Plants are always growing, changing. You know it was a good day at the farm when you’ve found ¼ cup soil in your bra and blowing out dirt boogers. It’s really hard work! But what I’ve had the privilege to contribute isn’t even a teeny tiny fraction of the hard work Anna and Aaron put into their flower farm on the daily. It blows my mind how persistently they’re out, any day, any weather, powering through the swamp ass, boob sweat, and blisters to plant and harvest- endlessly caretaking, nourishing, loving their land. I’ve witnessed the enormous amount of labor required to produce flowers as a business. I love my friends and wish success and prosperity for them. This is why I feel so strongly about supporting farmers and educating consumers about all they do to provide for us.
I’ve appointed myself as baby Ruby’s auntie. I can’t wait to roll around in the dirt and laugh about butt jokes with her. She’s already one of the coolest kids I know.
Visit Aaron, Anna, and Ruby at a local farmers market, buy buckets of flowers for your DIY event, or take a gander at their website.
